Inspect the photography selection
Reddit Posts API gives content analysts read access to an independent historical Reddit archive. It is not affiliated with Reddit and does not provide a live feed. Start with a small photography selection before deciding which equipment discussions belong in your study. No coverage period, complete collection or permanent availability is promised, and a retrieved record need not match the current original page.
Try GET https://api.redditpostsapi.com/v1/posts?subreddit=photography&min_score=10&limit=3. subreddit=photography selects the community, min_score=10 sets a minimum numeric score, and limit=3 asks for at most three posts. The threshold does not rank results or certify their quality. This query does not itself isolate equipment topics; read the returned content and record your inclusion decisions. It can return fewer posts or none.
Synthetic response excerpt, not a real result: {"data":[],"pagination":{"page":1,"limit":3,"total":0,"relation":"eq"},"credits":{"cost":1,"balance":99}}. The balance is fictional. The example illustrates the response container without inventing a photography post or endorsement. Inspect fields actually present before annotating camera, lens or tripod references. Treat these as possible coding categories, not findings established by the service.
Set the period before interpreting the posts
Use from and to as YYYY-MM-DD dates in UTC, with to including the stated day. These filters apply to record date through created_utc, not archive ingestion time or the moment you ran the query. They do not accept second-level timestamps. If your research concerns a narrower event interval, retrieve the enclosing dates and apply a documented local time filter to the available records.
Keep the community, date interval and any text or score filter alongside the raw response. Results use internal document order _doc, not chronological, relevance or score sorting. A locally sorted table describes only the posts you received. Each request fetches one page of up to 100 records and page is limited to 1 through 100. Traversing those pages does not prove complete retrieval.
Read the pagination total with relation: eq means exact for the query, gte a lower bound, and unknown no reliable total, potentially null. An exact count is not evidence that your client downloaded every match. Preserve actual responses and annotation rules to repeat your own local processing. Sending the same query later does not guarantee identical records, field presence or a frozen archive snapshot.
Access and budget for the study
Create an account with email and a password of 12 to 72 bytes. The key appears once immediately after signup, before payment. Keep it on your server and send X-API-Key: <key> or Authorization: Bearer <key>; the placeholder is not a usable credential. An optional 100-credit trial depends on network-wide anti-abuse eligibility and is not guaranteed. Keys and balances belong to redditpostsapi.com.
Each successful retrieval costs one credit, including empty results: $1 per 1000 requests. A minimum paid top-up of $50 buys 50000 credits, without a subscription or expiry on paid credits. For payment, sign in and create an invoice, use its exact recipient and amount with USDT TRON TRC20 or USDC ERC20 on Ethereum mainnet, then submit the transaction hash for verification.
Only a confirmed genuine transfer verified by the server adds credit, with no fixed completion time. Invalid API requests do not debit; upstream failures refund reservations. A lost client response can follow a billable server success, and a successful retry costs another credit. /v1/status is public and uncharged but only supplies static scope and HTTP responsiveness. It does not test search or record availability. Read the Guide before dividing a study into date windows.
